What the tScheme Approved Service Mark signifies

When a trust service carries the tScheme Mark, you can be secure in the knowledge that:

Approved Service - Service Description

The subject service of this Grant of Approval is the ID Safe Service from Experian Limited.

ID Safe provides you with an opportunity to be able to easily identify yourself to organisations using one set of ID Safe personal details.

The personal details are things like your own unique ID Safe username, your own ID Safe password, your own ID Safe memorable word.

These personal details would be set up by you when you first register with ID Safe.

In addition to proving who you are you can also allow a copy of your own personal details to be passed to the organisation instead of having to repeatedly enter your details on each website. Examples of the personal details we are talking about includes your first and last name, middle name, your address, your date of birth, whether you are male or female.

The benefits to you of using ID Safe include:

To get an ID Safe account you will need to register. You can do this by clicking on the ID Safe logo when you see it on an organisation’s website.

You will then be switched to ID Safe.

You will be asked to provide some personal details.

You will be asked to set up your own unique user name and password and set up a memorable word - something that you can remember - this helps to prove who you are when you use ID Safe.

You will be asked to agree to us carrying out an identity check - just to make sure you are who you say you are - this is for your own protection - you don't want someone else pretending to be you.

You will have the opportunity to look at the ID Safe terms and conditions and our privacy statement - this will help you understand more about how ID Safe works and how it protects you.

After we have been able to prove who you are, you will be asked to set up a number of security questions - for example ‘what is the name of your pet’? You will be asked these when you call the ID Safe Helpdesk.

You’ll also get an email asking you to confirm the email address you entered as part of your personal details.

That’s it. After you have done this you’ll be passed back to the organisation and you can carry on. We will have confirmed your identity to the organisation and we will have passed back the personal details you asked us to pass over. You may see some of the details appear on the organisation’s web page.

The next time an organisation asks you to prove your identity and you see the ID Safe logo, all you need to do is select the logo, enter your personal details into ID Safe and then we’ll pass you back to the organisation. We’ll also show you a copy of the personal details you agreed we can share with the organisation. You can choose to see a copy of the details we share on your behalf each time.

After you have registered, if any of your details change then you can update this in ID Safe, for example if you move house. After you have told us you have moved, we would ask for your permission to carry out another identity check - again to make sure it’s really you making the change.
